Minas Tirith progress 1

Hi there folks, it’s Hannibal here, ripping off Kaemon‘s salute!

I wanted to show the progress of Minas Tirith. I’m not used to show my maps unfinished like this; but I’ll make an exception with this one!

Minas Tirith is at 40% as you can see at the Map Progress on the left; personally I can see myself finishing it in less than 2 months 🙂 . This map takes the best of all my previous maps: the amazing run moments of Mines of Moria, the huge  skybox and great looks of Mount Doom, the defense and zombie fighting moments of Helms Deep, some useful (but not too powerful) items for both teams like in Paranoid and the different stages (levels) of Mako Reactor.

I must explain about that last feature: it will not be a “difficulty” system, but more of a “progress/levels” system. When humans win a round in Mako, you play the SAME MAP  again with minor modifications for making it harder. In contrast, when humans win a round in Minas Tirith, they will unlock the NEXT STAGE! In other words, it’s like a long round of 20 minutes cut into pieces.  The different stages are:

Osgiliath (~4 minutes): a fast round of non-stop running through the Osgiliath ruins while zombies are continuously behind you. The round starts at the river part, continued by retreat through the city streets and ending with the open fields that lead to the gates of Minas Tirith.

Minas Tirith defense (~6 minutes): defense and retreat from the main gates of Minas Tirith against Grond, escape through the city, defense of the walls against the Siege Towers, and retreat to the big gate of the 2nd level of the city.

Minas Tirith retreat (~5 minutes): escape through the 2nd and 3rd levels (floors) of Minas Tirith, with many different routes and defense points, defense of the walls and retreat to the inner streets of Minas Tirith.

Minas Tirith last stand (~4 minutes): final stand at Minas Tirith top floors, Nazgul fight and last stand at the plaza on the citadel’s peak. Optional (+2 minutes) if you played “well” during the map.

More things will be explained tomorrow (like the play “well” reference). Keep tuned!

  6. Thanks for all comments 🙂 , I wanna make a map as long as intense, but don’t worry, It wont be a run and run map.
    And, yeah crazyjay, I have the same feeling as when Mako, players will want to see the last stage, prepare to play 40 minutes for sure >: D

    It’s looking great as was always the case from Day 1 Hanni! I think the concept of having a ‘saga’ style map, broken into section with access unlocked based on achievement is a fine one.

    Few things drive players on more than the determination to see what is at the end of a map – the Extreme Mode in Mako Reactor is a perfect example – as players feel a special achievement when a map forces Teamwork, which is then applied to win through the map to a special ending.

    The City modeling in Minas is a work of art in itself, let alone anything else. I can see this final map in the LoTR series turning into an LoTR version of Paranoid, with constant additions, inclusions and versions though – which is no bad thing when you see the fine map Paranoid evolved to by its latest version!

    I better warn poor Kaemon … the testing and redoign of Paranoid nearly did him in! hehee 🙂
