Minas Tirith, go!

Posted: March 10, 2011 by Hannibal[SPA] (Rafuron) in ZE LOTR Minas Tirith

Minas Tirith at 75%, or, I don’t know! I have just reached the TOP of MINAS TIRITH! My god! (I must edit it, as you see in the pic, and forget Bahamut haha) I feel like someone who has climbed a fucking high mountain. No teleports, just ramps, ladders, stairs, some lift,…. But, no more ways at the top. The ending will be total freedom. No crates, open buildings, or something, just a face to face to defend until the arrival of something. I don’t know if you like this, but it’s excessive to make the king hall, because you will reach the top, only if you play pretty well, and if the map is extended (or not rtved).

Furthermore, I wanna add these pics and remember to you the lvl system. I don’t want a Paranoid ( I had enought), so I will add just 5 unlockable items for CT and 4 for T (a total of 9, two of them are decoratible, a simple parented prop). Remember: if you win as human (reach the end of the round), you will level up, a maximum of 3 levels, with items for each level. Easy? of course not, there are only 4 rounds until you reach the end, so, you must win 3/4 rounds as human to have the max level (it is not as easy as mako). Where do you get them? at your spawn, which is a street in cross, with one store for Zombie and another one for Human, you will have a short time to ‘buy’ your desired item. If you don’t understand nothing, do not care, it will be explained easily at the map, or you can ignore it completely and play as a normal map. With this: no more ‘race’  to the item during the round, and no more ‘that fool picked up my weapon’ (well, be careful if there are a lot of lvl 2 or lvl 1, because the items are limited).

The items are:

For humans:

  • LVL 1:
    • Flag (x5) : just a decorative item, cool stuff to improve visuals and teaming.
  • LVL 2:
    • Heavy armor (x2): with this armor you can block the zombies and restist x5 knives
    • Torch (x2): you can set in fire some map elements and push the zombies a bit (they still can kill you)
    • Supplies (x1): a dude will be able to place a barrel that will give unlimited ammo, heal, and grenades (+use on it) to near humans. It vanishes in a more than 30 s)
  • LVL 3:
    • Gandalf (x1): two special abilities (“You cannot pass!” and massive light)
    • Horse (x2): more speed, zombie push, and resist x10 knives
  • LVL 4:
    • Secret (x1): it can be a not related object with LOTR

For zombies:

  • LVL 1:
    • Totem(x4) : decorative item, gives more hp and speed to the carrier.
  • LVL 2:
    • Ladders (x2): breakable ladder, you will be able to set up a ladder and climb it, humans must be careful with these.
    • Explosive (x2): hurts humans and destroy barricades
  • LVL 3:
    • Troll (x3): (it will be bigger than the one at the pick) no description needed : D
  • LVL 4:
    • Secret (x1): it can be a not related object with LOTR

Moreover, remember that barricades items will be everywhere (cheap for the source engine but useful), and will be necessary because the map will not have defending areas.

I didn’t forget the nazguls; nazguls may appear in two rounds, and the only dudes that can pick up them, are the zombies of lvl 2 or 3.

The Minas Tirith key : fight against zombies, never boss; pure teamwork; without defined hold positions; multiple ways; strategic items; the scenary, use it (faster ways, positions to hide, narrow and wide streets,…); no pushes; no invisible walls; no teleports (just the teleport for zspawn servers); and of course, great views!

I hope to finish that map soon, now, time to put the triggers and entities (the hard and sometimes boring part of mapping is to create the physic layout).

  1. Luffaren says:

Omg dude.. this looks awesome 😀
Keep up the good work and i’ll keep rtv’ing for this map.

  2. Crazyjay says:

looks sweet. you should have bahamut squish humans if they fail at the end

  3. xD34tHRowZ says:

LOL! I love the idea of having a random Bahamut squishing the humans if they fail at the end xD

  4. dale says:

    very nice.

  5. xD34tHRowZ says:

I say some of the items looks really helpful for the last stand since there wont be any barricades, teleporters, etc. Its gonna be face to face, this sure would be hard >_>

  6. I’m thinking on adding some random stuff and funny, like Crazyjay says, I don’t want to make a serious serious map.

  7. Yeah, remember Mako Reactor last part on extreme. Ppl will learn how to set up a barricade and win, but if zombies have nazguls and trolls, prepare to a ‘save your own ass’ fight.

  8. ZaN says:

Have my speculations about these special decorative / weapons / items things.
But so far so good, sounds like some servers will fail entirely since it’s gonna be: fight against zombies and pure teamwork, which some servers really fail at, but we’ll see how this turns out

  9. Fail cooperation means fail zombies also, in the most of cases : D . Anyway, I won’t put a place where the entire human group depends on 1 or 2 dudes.

  10. Puni says:

Dont think you should add random things to be honest, it would take away from the epicness of the theme.
Especially has LOTR has so many options.

No need to add a bahamut when you could have the Nagzul fly over on a fell beast and squash everyone. Keeps the theme and is more epic.

Funny stuff would be cool, but for example instead of something unrelated, LOTR has comical moments, such as Gimli. You could use Gimli sounds and possible an axe animation (making this up as i go along) and it could be comical and funny.

Just my opinion, but I think you should make it bit serious/bit funny and all on theme

  11. Puni says:

Thats good old zombie escape, before bosses and stuff.
The basic ZE is still my favourite, however until the LOTR maps were made there was no good maps!

Mount Doom is probs my favourite ZE map because it requires a decent team to win it. Also Cirith Ungol & Minas Morgul looks awesome

  12. xD34tHRowZ says:

Yup we dont want another Paranoid do we? xD

  13. That’s a nice idea.
Anyway, I was thinking in adding random stuff at secret places (hard to find) or at the ending moment (last 20 seconds of the final round i.e.). But it’s true I could make funny moments themed with LOTR, imagine you at the top, and Denethor running on flames and jumping to the abyss. Or a mix of random and LOTR (Gimli driving a tank and pwning the zombies? xD, or Nazguls being exploded by planes). Just wanna some rofl moments : D, the map is already full of epicness!

  14. Crazyjay says:

You could also make it where things from your previous maps invade this map at one point. Sephiroth appears with the annihator to kill the humans

  15. Lol we think the same. I was thinking on the “I see you again” cut xDDD

  16. Puni says:

I love the idea of Denethor running on flames! and falling of the top! 🙂

Hmm, maybe you could make some interaction with NPCs using triggers as some funny little secrets.

I dont know about the tank idea but you could include some awesome stuff from your other maps at the end as a tribute to yourself and your work?

It would kinda depend how you want Minas Tirith to end.
if it gives the humans the chance to kill the zombies (like paranoid colliseum), you could have some of the old models floating about or in a showroom or something. Or you could use the monsters to kill the zombies for fun.

By the way, if you have Nazgul on fell beasts, you should make a secret or something to counter it with the giant eagles that Gandalf summons. It could make it more fair for both sides (although eagles could be rare)

    Just some thoughts 🙂

  17. xD34tHRowZ says:

Maybe a minigame at the end if beaten the last level like Paranoid?
We get to choose out of around 5 options and one of them can be a boss fight of a Bahamut or maybe Sephiroth xD

  18. The ending will be the top of Minas Tirith, I don’t know what to do, but I want to make it free. The fight could be near the abys, near the king hall doors, near the white tree… So, I couldn’t do specific endings, but I could turn the humans into the green ghosts : D and knife the rest of zombies

  19. Crazyjay says:

I say you have the final fight at the white tree area, since the only other places at the top are the throne room and the funeral room, and the white tree area gives you the most room. The turning the humans into the green ghosts sounds perfect, just make it so they can still shoot or else zombies will just stall the round time limit.

  20. xD34tHRowZ says:

You need something Hard at the end.. hmm.. something like Sephiroth in Mako to “troll the people who think they won”

  21. mat.duf says:

Is it possible to add the radio on the map ?

  22. Crazyjay says:

I dont think you should troll them. Maybe make it so humans have a choice to hold out and defend or they can charge down for a faster win.

  23. xD34tHRowZ says:

Nah, I would love something “harder” than Mako. Mako is harder enough. And its a fun map actually my fav. =)
Something like a troll or Nazgul coming to troll us all xD

  24. Nah, no radio. The map will have music everywhere and the most of time.

And about making the map harder than Mako, I’m making an enyoyable map, the difficulty will depend completely on the ppl at the server (cooperation, player lvl,etc..). But, after winning the 4º round I’ll active a trigger to set the map in extreme, just for extreme players >: D, no barriers, 50.000 hp zombies, faster zombies…

  25. Admiral Awesome says:

I simply cannot wait for Minas Tirith to be finished!

  26. UNREA1 says:

Couldn’t be more epic, could it?

  27. Anonymous says:

Can’t wait to play it… You should totally create a map where the skin of the zombie are humans, with knives and pitchforks and going after zombies…. Humans chasing zombies…. LOL… now that’s zombie escape… zombies must choose weapon style at start… zombies can choose from different weapon styles… “knockback, freeze, slow, etc…”
