Back to work! Last Man Standing first steps.

I talked with Hannibal yesterday, and looks like we are starting to work on Last Man Standing at last!. He has played enough Battlefield 3 Beta and he told me he won’t be playing anymore until the game is released, and he started to feel like starting working on LMS already.
(Myself I may take a couple extra days, since I want to play 1 or 2 more Heroes 6 games, and maybe some Minecraft)

Right now Hannibal is just doing a 3DS Max model for a very special effect that will be within the map, but as soon as we talk some more I should join the fest and start doing something of use myself, like “Hammer Mapping” or maybe some custom models (I did in fact started working on one for this map before my computer crashed, but I need to get the hang of it again).

Last Man Standing is supposed to be Hannibal‘s last CS:S map; a way to say goodbye to both CS:S and Zombie Mod while preparing for whatever comes in the future.
The map will reflect this feeling and will be made as an epic finale: It will include cross overs (even if some just as easter eggs) with other ZE maps or Zombie games, and an epic ending to eradicate all zombies on Earth.

About the playability of the map, it’s probably too soon to say exactly what will happen (even if Hannibal made his mind on how some key moments are supposed to be) but right now the plan is that the map will be divided in 4 different stages.
The 3 first stages are supposed to be happening at once, at the same exact time, on different locations all leading to the same place, while 3 different groups of humans are fighting their way to the “Last Stand” (Stage 4). Unlike previous stage/difficulty based maps, the plan right now is making the stages non-repeteable; meaning that if you lose (Zombie Victory) Stage 1, you will still go on and play Stage 2; however, based on human accomplishments on previous stages, things might be different on the other stages. A perfect example is how it will become harder to survive the “Last Stand” for every group of humans (aka: round/stage) lost, since you will have fewer resources at your disposal.

So far we are still discussing many points; even if we should include “Monsters” in the map. I would like to include 1 or 2 “Boss Battles” completely made by me; but not “forced” ones: One could be like a “secret event” for those who know how to go look for it, and the other one could be a “random event” that doesn’t happen most of the time you play the map, to avoid making them repetitive, and give some epic feeling.
We are thinking about the possibility of adding some especial “infected” (Zombie-Player-Controled) “Monsters” aswell; and some especial weapons and devices for humans are confirmed.
Many extra things will depend on how many entities we spend on making the basic needs of the map.

I will let you know as we decide on specific things (if we don’t reserve them as surprises) or if the map starts progressing for real (right now we just decided to start it, but it’s not really started perse; just Hannibal modeling in 3DS for the first time).
“Tomorrow” (yeah, lately you shouldn’t trust my dates; freaking Heroes 6) I will rant and give out lots of information about Luffaren’s upcoming ZE map; it’s has been on the making for a while now, but there is still lots of work to do.

    Sounds awesome! I can’t wait for more information. I do like the way the stages will be set out. If humans lose 2 stages but win 1 then stage 4 will be fuc*king impossible πŸ˜‰

    What about stage 4 do you have to win that to go back to round 1 (Extreme mode returns?) also we need warmup round coz some ppl has slow connection and wont make it to first round.

    Yeah, warmup round was already included into the design; and it will be quite different from the Minas Tirith one.

    Also; we still need to decide on many things; I for example don’t think that losing a stage in 30 seconds should already count that stage as played and lost; but right now I think that Hannibal wants to make winning/losing Stage 4 go back to Stage 1, without a new difficulty.

    It will have items, probably none from spawn, but arround the map (similar to Paranoid).
    Right now levels are not planned to be included; apart from a special thing that it’s not really a “level”.

    cant wait luffarens new map. I already have a strange feeling as to what it will be.
    I guess non repeatable rounds that affect the ‘next’ round is the next logical step from rounds where victory to progress is necessary. The only thing i worry about is that many players who dont understand how to play properly (edgers [people who stand on edges and get knifed] for example) may make things incredibly difficult in the final round by failing the cts again and again on each round.

    I honestly don’t know; and I’m not sure if Hannibal decided over it yet (but I supose he did).
    However he will wait until a new version is kinda necesary, and that he feels like mapping it, before releasing the version with the winners.

    It’s on Origin that is free to download ^^ I just bought BF3 from there earlier πŸ˜€ When you download Origin you need to set up an EA account (unless you already have one) just log in then look around on Origin until you find the beta. But you might want to hurry! The beta ends soon πŸ™‚

    Well, its different, and you know how everyone prefers one thing or the other.
    But yeah, Last Man Standing will be more like “find them and pick them”, even if a little different.

  18. Thanks Kaemon for your efforts on the blog! You are a really good writer, no doubt (even better than me, hahah) Nice one.
    All he said is true, the items, the 3ds, the stages; we are the same feelings about that map so I hope to construct the layout fucking soon. It’s like Minas, I started making a thing to see if it’s possible πŸ™‚ (the army at minas), same happened at Last Man (a model) and then the layout. Thanks for keep playing aswell πŸ™‚ I got a bit bored of Battlefield 3 beta already; fucking infantry maps are the fucking same and mind raping! more hardcore, less fun; I want to see vehicles, is the real fun of that game.
