A quick comment on Serpentis Temple.

Ey, we just uploaded some hours ago the second version of Serpentis Temple, b1, quickly followed by a b1_fix because some models were missing textures… Then we proceed to play b1_fix for a while and aparently some people were not loading the particles, but for some odd reasons others were…

Anyway. Aparently the crash while fighting Medusa wasn’t fixed. We are still unsure of what causes it; but the bigger suspect is probably parenting a player to the snake so it moves around.

We didn’t intend to release new versions for a while; but with the particles thing, the map being around 20 MBs bigger than it should; and the crash still occuring; we will probably upload a new version withing the next 5-15 days.

However, we really want to play and test the current b1_fix version first to see if we can figure out what causes the crash exactly. Like playing 10 rounds against Medusa with no one getting bitten at any time and see if it crashes or not; 10 rounds where no one gets stonned and see if it crashes or not, etc… Trying to rule out factors and such.

It could be caused by other things; like the system that gets the stone statues in place, the poison trail particle… We don’t know; and odd enough the crash occurs like a NO FREE EDICTs crash (at the start of the next round) but we are pretty sure that is not the case (the map is at all the times more than 300 entities away from crashing limits).
The main suspect is still the bite (even if now you don’t die while bitten; which we believed to be the problem).

If someone thinks to know why the crash exactly occurs; please let us now.

    Anyway; we finally found out what causes the glitch; and it was quite a weird combo imposible to figure out with many players testing…

    Anyway; next version will have the Medusa Crash completely fixed, almost quaranteed. If you still want to fight Medusa; just don’t leave your team (don’t try to rejoin nor try to go espectator) after diying against her. If you just die normaly, and don’t leave your team, it won’t crash.

    I have played it in 5 different servers; but most of them don’t seem to have it no normal rotation; so you can’t nominate it; only an Admin can change to it; wich sounds fine to me since the last version still crashes if people go to espectator while fighting Medusa; and the particles weren’t pakrated properly…

    However I believe that i3D ( and BoredGaming ( have it on rotation right now.

    I bet you will see the next version on more servers; since it will have the Crash Fixed; Particles Pakrated properly, many minor fixes again, it will be 15-25 MBs smaller, and we will release it on the Gamebanana MG section (so far Original was only on the Treasure Hunter contest, and we didn’t release B1 nor B1_Fix on Gamebanana because of the crashing problem.

    The crash occurs when a player that got parented to something, or got something parented to him (used for both the Snake Bite and the Stone Gaze) is on Espectator when the next round beings; since the engine doesn’t know where he “really” (his physical player body?) is; and so it crashes.

    The solution is as simple as using a Clearparent on the player. Even if he goes Espectator while being biten, it will get the Clearparent just fine. The hard part was to find out what was exactly causing the crash… And we discovered it while testing Luffaren’s future MG map, that also uses this kind of parenting; by almost pure luck! XD

    As long as no one that died against Medusa goes to Espectator, B1_Fix won’t crash. Future versions won’t crash even if you do so.

    Thanks, but we finally found out what was causing the crash problem; and to be honest, it was one of those really weird crashes that you can’t find with many people at once.

    The problem only occurs when someone that got Bitten by the Snake, or Turning into Stone by Medusa’s Gaze, goes (and remains) in the Espectator Team while the next round tries to start.
    We were quite lucky to find it out while testing (only me and Luffa) a new MG he is working on that uses a Parenting system quite similar to the one used for the Medusa events.

    PS: the church in the beginning is NOT the cathedral. The cathedral is 4 times as big in both size and levels, and obvisouly, it appears at the end. I hope to be able to make a video of the cathedral in 2 weeks.

    I have play it today and we win but if you be there new version of the map it should be like predator(I mean when we shoot him we get score so we know) and dose nades make a lot of damge on him?

    I was thinking about adding the DPS/Score thing. It would help indeed, and give an indicator not only if you are doing good/bad yourself, but how others are doing and who is doing nothing. XD

    And yeah, nades do a lot of damage to Medusa (75 hits).
    Her static HP (2.000 allways) makes her instant-die with 27 nades; we are also planing on make her stronger/weaker depending on the humans playing.

  16. There is a bug with servers running noblock, the first room with the spikes coming out of the wall does not work properly. Players will go through the spikes and walls when there is noblock.
