A Quick Fix for Hammer

Posted: June 3, 2013 by Kaemon in Kaemon's Rants, Mapping Tricks, News

So… In case anyone has still problems with Hammer (including lag caused by some of the early ways of fixing it, or lack of your custom files while mapping) that happened because of the patch that converted CS:S to VPK File Format, here is a really simple and fast way of fixing it:

Don’t open Source SDK. Just forget about it.
Instead, go to your new Counter-Strike Source folder (now inside of common), and once there, instead of going to cstrike (where you usually go to place maps, materials and models) go instead into the bin folder.
There you will find a Hammer.exe, use that one for opening Hammer and problem solved. Works on the first try, no lag, your materials and custom models should show, etc…

You are probably interested in creating a shortcut for it on your desktop or wherever you prefer.
The path usually should be something like this:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Source\bin\hammer.exe”

Hope is still of some use to someone… But most likely everyone that cared about fixing his Hammer has already done so. I was personally unable to work with the first laggy workarounds.

Luffaren is giving me a couple of screenshots of his upcoming map that I’m allowed to share. Will try to get a couple more and post them later this week.
I’m personally feeling like mapping a little… For my 2D Minigame :-s
